Also known as Overnight Oats, this is a healthy breakfast alternative.
I first heard about Bircher Muesli when I was up north at my dads bach last year. My dad and his wife are always trying new diets and this just happened to be the breakfast that was in at the time.
I learnt how to make it with them, then came home and developed my own take on it – I’m not a fan of nuts so those were immediately excluded!
The recipe I use is:
1 grated apple
1.5 cups of oats
1.5 cups of organic orange juice
1.5 cups of natural yogurt (unsweetened, no msg or added sugars, NOT “lite”)
1/3 cup of linseed
1/3 cup of sunflower seeds
1/3 cup of pumpkin seeds
2 cap fulls of Apple Cider Vinegar
Mix these altogether in a bowl, cover with glad wrap and put in the fridge to set over night.
When serving I add extra natural yogurt and cut up some fresh fruit such as banana, feijoa, or pear to add flavour.
You can pretty much add whatever you like to enhance the flavour – I occasionally add raisins into the fridge mix too.
This mixture generally lasts me about 4-5 days.
This is a simple healthy breakfast that takes less than 5 minutes to make – which for me is fantastic! I like to eat and don’t have too much patience for prep time (although I am working on this the more meals I make).
Let me know what your additions to Bircher’s Muesli are; I would love to try some new flavours!
